Dog grooming can be anything you want it to be, a full time exciting career that will take you around the country competing in dog grooming shows, learning new skills and evolving to be the best you can be, working with a team within a commercial salon, also flexibility as much or as little as you like, working from home, around your commitments. This is especially great for parents, people wanting to slow down or around a part time job to boost your income. Depending on your situation there are many options for setting up a salon from home, converting a garage or log cabin, utility room or other and you also can have ready made salons delivered to your garden. Or you might want to go mobile, from a ready made grooming van or trailer, or simply groom from clients homes, with a mobile trolley table. We are happy to help you decide which is the best way for you if you have not already chosen, we can advise on equipment, salon set up, and on our dog grooming course you will learn how to run and manage a safe successful business. Our classes are one on one, the reason for this is we want to give you the best start as possible, promoting confidence and skills you will leave us a fully trained and competent groomer from a beginner,
We run flexible courses for 1 to 4 days per week Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays, the course is 200 hours (25 days) 10.30am until 5.30pm, we are also happy to discuss half days, which can be morning or afternoon please ask for further information.
My Name is Sue I am the owner of Woodland Paws Salon and school, and I will be your sole Personal tutor for the duration of your course. I am City & Guilds Diploma qualified & an Experienced Groomer having worked in the industry for over 12 years I am knowledgeable in many pet and breed styles. I also hold a level 3 Vocational Tutor certificate & Level 3 vocational Assessor award, I have won a grooming competition hand scissoring Poodles in show trims and am always striving to learn up to date techniques to stay current in the industry, I originally trained at a school just like this, changing a 12 year office career, so I fully understand what a big step it is, Grooming is my passion and I love teaching and passing on my knowledge to new groomers, my main goal is to create happy, confident groomers that will be a success in their new career.
The rest of the team
Woodland paws is a working salon so it is quite busy and fast paced at times, however we always have fun and have a laugh whilst we learn, with our lovely salon team members. Although theses are not your tutors they are extremely supportive and you may occasionally groom along side them.
Carolina - Senior Salon Stylist trained with us and has been grooming with us for over 3 years, she holds her City & Guilds Level 2 and her ipet level 3 Diploma Plus Level 3 Canine first aid. Carolina is an excellent, experienced stylist and is a huge asset to our Salon.
Lucy - Stylist has trained with us last year and starting working with us immediately, she holds her iPET Level 3 Diploma Plus Level 3 Canine first aid. Lucy is a highly skilled and fantastic groomer.
Holly - Stylist with over a years experience elsewhere started with us in April needing to improve her skills as trainee stylist Holly is now a great groomer and getting stronger and better every day producing excellent haircuts.
Sophie - our newest recruit started with us in June 22, after completing her iPET Level 3 Diploma, Plus Level 3 Canine first aid with us. Sophie is gaining lots of experience and has become a fabulous and strong competent groomer.

Come and spend three days with us, More than just a taster day, learn how we bath dry and prep for grooming, also a little trimming. This is also suitable for owners who want to learn how to look after their pets between grooms like a professional.
For already trained groomers that wish to better their skills and learn new ones, to keep up to date with trends and techniques. Perfect your Breed styles and Pet styles.
Want to learn how to keep your dog in great condition between grooms? never have to have them clipped off short because of matting or worry if you miss or are late for an appointment again?
On this training day you will learn how to hold, lift and secure your dog safely during grooming, how to bath and dry as a professional would, brush and comb out correctly, remove knots safely, tidy trim feet, Sanitary areas and in front of the eyes/face and what products and tools to use for your dogs coat type.
Suitable for all long and curly coated breeds/mix breeds and ages Puppies welcome as long as they have had both vaccinations. Your dog also needs to be relatively well behaved we are unable to train if your dog is aggressive. Please note also that they will always still need a professional full body trim every 6/8 weeks.
